Simplicity 8392 Cropped Hoodie

Hey y’all! I hope everyone had a great summer. While it is technically fall, here in Texas, we still have highs of 90 degrees in October.

Since I didn’t post all summer, I’ll be updating my blog with items I made this summer as my schedule permits.

Let’s get started.

When I first saw the pattern for a cropped hoodie, I thought, who would wear half of a jacket? Does it keep half of your body warm and the rest cold? Well, the answer to that question is yes and yes.

M7505 Bell Sleeve Dress

2017 is the year of the sleeves. This is a trend that I don’t see ending for awhile. I might have one or two more sleeve projects to complete before I am done with them.

I picked up this pattern last fall from Joann, a Nicole Miller pattern, M7505. It is described as a semi-fitted dress at the bust. M7505_aI picked up some denim chambray fabric and immediately cut out the pattern. Then I put it down until last week.  Continue reading

M7100 Bomber Jacket

I think I may have developed an obsession with jackets. Bomber jackets to be exact.

The start of my obsession. M7100

I made a floral bomber jacket last year during the McCall’s Blog sewalong, (My jacket made the photo collage on their page) using M7100. This is such a great jacket.  The design elements are endless. The first one was made from a stretch floral sateen and black satin that I had purchased from JoAnn.

I loved it so much that I made plans to make 4 more. While I love making jackets, let’s be realistic, do I really need 4 bomber jackets? Yes, I do!  Continue reading

Petal Sleeve Top – M7542

Can you believe it is February? With everything that has been going on here, politically, I haven’t been in the mood to sew much. My goal is to get back on track this month. So, lets get started.

I don’t think I have really discovered what my style is. I like what I like, and I try to buy clothes that are flattering for my figure. I can’t say the same for when I sew for myself. Sewing clothes that both fit and are flattering is something that I hope to improve on this year. So, I will be stepping out of my comfort zone of T-shirts, jeans, and flats by trying to incorporate different blouses and tops into my casual wardrobe. I feel like view A, is me testing the waters a little.

Mc Calls released this pattern, M7542,  as a part of the early spring 2017 release late last year. As soon as I saw this top, I knew I was going to make at least one of these. They are all super cute!

DIY Heart Patch Pants

Happy New Year!

I know everyone is busy setting goals and getting excited for the new year. I was planning to do a 2017 goals and planning post, but I changed my mind. I’m easing into the new year. I guess you can say that is my plan – to ease into 2017.

Anyway, I have a quick and easy patch repair DIY. It is actually a reverse applique or patch. With a traditional reverse applique, you are suppose to layer fabric, stitch and then cut away the top layer to reveal the fabric underneath. I did mine a little different. Feel free to look up other methods.

You’re probably wondering why I decided to do a random DIY patch post. Well, my daughter came home from school right before the break with holes in the knees of  her black pants. These pants were still fairly new, while I was upset I decided to just repair them.

Here is what you need. Continue reading

Dipped Chocolate Chunk Cookies

The week before Thanksgiving is the official start of my baking season. When I’m not sewing, cooking or working, I am definitely baking up some tasty treats.

I came across this cookie recipe while I was in college in 2004. Martha Stewart had a small magazine titled Everyday Food that appealed to regular people like me with awesome recipes. Sadly, it is no longer in print. In 2006 they released a special cookie issue. It is one of my most sacred cookie books.

I have been baking these cookies forever. Around the same time, a local Houston bakery sold Chocolate Chunk Cookies that were half dipped in chocolate and I had to have them all the time because I’m greedy and I love chocolate. So, here it is. Continue reading
